Re: AUTOMATE??

When you move from a tier 1 DMS like rey/rey, CDK, UCS, to a small tier 3 like Automate, Dealertrack, etc. , there is always a period of change for both staff and management as everyone figures it out. As a manager, the longer you spent on a major DMS, the harder that transition tends to be as you ...

Re: Tech Counter

I understand the constraints of a union shop but where's the service manager in this? If he's being held to a certain standard of proficiency in the shop I would think he would be screaming.

I started in parts when all we had for inventory control was a cardex file. Ugh! I saw the first computers come when they were programmed with cards punched with holes, presumably machine language. Mike Nichols was the first to use a “super computer” to compile data from many dealers ...

My rep walked in yesterday so I asked about the kiosks. The first month the kiosk produced $30k in upsells. The manufacturer thinks that the artificial intelligence will take 5 yrs to fully evolve into an effective advisor’s roll. It will be interesting to see what the scorecard looks like ...

Re: The days of the parts counterperson job are numbered.

Here are the facts that I know and you can draw your own conclusions. The industry estimates by 2032 that there will be more electric cars sold than gasoline. Some manufacturers have already announced end of service dates for gas engines. Who could have predicted that 10 years ago? By 2025, the ...

Re: In-Outs and receipts

Rob,

I haven't proved it either way, however, according to ADP/CDK documentation, it would appear that what the parts managers forum is suggesting is true. It doesn't check inventory, just sells what you receipted and records it as an emergency purchase. From the ADP online help guide:
"An ...

Re: Electronic Special Orders

Richard about sums it up with his emoticon. It's not a great system within drive and creates as many headaches as it solves. The reports are very limited and keeping inventory straight can be challenging.

Re: An apology to Richard

The lipstick on the pig analogy probably is the best description for the big three DMS systems. Layers upon layers upon layers of changes and so called improvements to a system that was designed back in the late 70's and early 80's. Not one of them addresses how we do business today. ADP doesn't ...

I'm assuming your concerned about the dollar amounts? If so, than I would say no, those numbers come directly from the closed tickets and the labor types that the advisors use. Obviously, the number of tickets and/or op-codes could be manipulated.

Re: Who's responsible for selling maintenance in the shop?

BTK and Possum have the answer. It comes down to process and accountability. Does the tech do a full and complete inspection of the vehicle, every time? Does that inspection get back to the advisor in a reasonable time? Does the advisor present that inspection to the customer every time along with a ...
