Selling below dealer cost transactions
Just a feeler. If your parts department sells something below cost, ie aged inventory, how do you usually process the transaction? We will usually make a customer facing invoice for their payment [so they have a record of purchase] and then a balance invoice for the controller to handle on the back ...

Re: overnighting warranty mechanical parts
Depends on the ETA, how long the car has been down, how much the customer is investing into the repairs, if we're slammed and need to get it out the door, loaner availability, etc. We split any internal overnight costs between parts and service since it's mutually beneficial.

Re: Anyone closing due to corona?
Still open in NEPA, albeit limited staff. Most people were allowed a voluntary furlough with some people just being laid off. We're at 40% volume due to the statewide PA shutdown at the moment. Literally eBaying anything laying around the department just to make us a few extra bucks.

Re: Anyone closing due to corona?
Open in NEPA, albeit with a modified sales staff schedule and possibly service personnel soon as well. Our aftersales departments gross several hundred dollars per full time employee per day so unless the government is willing to reimburse the business something near that number per employee per day ...

Re: Excel. How much do you use it?
I use it during month end recon. Using formulas mixed of IF, VLOOKUP & CONCAT to match invoice numbers & accounts to the MFG statements. Really to locate and fix missing MFG paperwork or incorrect entries in accounting. Makes the controller happy!

Inspection stickers
In the past, we would apply all inspection sticker costs to the shop expense account and then it would be relieved via op-code on each RO. They now changed that to dumping all the stickers into our parts inventory but they still want to relieve them via the op-code, so they are not shown as OH or ...

Re: Looking for ideas counter guy pay plan
Our current pay plan involves a small salary but mostly commission based on department GP. Their commission percentage that they earn for the month depends on what CP GP% they achieve. The reason we built that in is because we’re a retail state and can apply for warranty rate increases, so the ...

Re: Parts quotes
We use a multi-point inspection system that allows pictures, notes, parts lists, etc that is sent to the writer, and then presented to the customer. When doing a quick quote, we set up our CDK printer to print at both the parts terminal and also at the writer's area, so the tech gets a printout, the ...

Re: filling prepaid RO's for CDK without new RO
Same as above. Change the SOR customer number to whatever is your cash ticket customer number, then save it. Go into the invoice screen and sell the SOR; just make sure to hit enter all the through and nothing else or it might try to sell the part instead of fill it.
