My general motors market area manager is trying to put some pressure on me to purchase the in-dealership showroom display for 2001 at a cost of over $4000 and annual renewal fee of approximately $1500. He says all dealers in my market area have signed on for the display except me. Are any other GM dealers out there declining to accept this? I think that it's a ripoff!!

Hey, I got jabbed last month on this and I did not accept the computer kiosk (the expensive part) but got the divisional-specific display ($2000).

It will depend on how many franchises you have in one location and perhaps the turnover rate of your sales staff. Since we only have one franchise (and only 5 models), I told my MAM that a kiosk is useless. However, if you have 3 or four nameplates, perhaps it can help.

My concern with these products is that GM thinks we (or at least our sales staff) are idiots. GM forces and incentivises us to master product knowledge only to substitute our people with machines.

We still have that last interpretation of 'showroom' display kiosks and it serves at a catalog storage container.

What makes a cheap, reliable, usable kiosk is a standard PC connected to the web.

ps. Call the other dealers in your market area and ask them what they are doing. I seriously doubt they all have signed up.
