I heard from a reliable source that the ADP 9400 fixes a problem that ADP encountered with the 9200 supplied to Chrysler Dealers. Chrysler Dealers realized that they could add additional ports without authorization (That is, paying additional port charges)due to ethernet capabilities. Has anybody heard anything about this?

We are not a Chrysler dealer, but are on a 9400 system and just talked to the rep yesterday about port pricing ($1800 per port), but he did say you could convert the term ports (green screens) to ports for pc's.

I have always been curious, what do you get in return for paying this port charge? Don't you own the system and the hardware and the rights to use the applications that are running? Why additional port charges each time you wish to add a new device?

You get a receipt from ADP stating that they allowed you to access your computer to get your data at only a slight charge.

It's a pricing mechanizm for these companies to show how competitive they are on hardware costs. It would be consistent to the dealer that offers a car for sale or lease but requires a monthly 'user fee' in order to start the vehicle. It sucks but there aren't many other choices and switching between vendors is a real mess.

When ADP exited the parts catalog business, B&H reps tried to sign us on their $25,000 system. EDS, while not as rhobust is a much better deal at $600 per month. Just like other technologies, built-in obsolesence is key to ADP's survival... as is creative ways to get the customer to pay.

I suggest that anyone on ADP buy shares of ADP stock so you can benefit from the revenue and profit each time you out grow your current system. ADP has the best management team in the industry and it is their responsibility to provide profit for the Stock Holder ... which could be you!

ADP's management team might be part of the reason that Prudential Securities just downgraded the ADP stock to 'sell'. Also, the string of 163 quarters with record earnings came to an end. You can read the write up at:

Please remember to come back and make note of any other company that can stand up to 163 consecutive quarters of double digit earnings growth.

There are many other companies who's stock ratings were cut to sell and many other Securities houses that raised ADP's rating to "buy."

The brokerage houses opinion doesn't change the fact that ADP still makes quality products and delivers them in a quality fashion.
