Small dealership, less than 50 new and used. Is CRM really all that...or with a dealership our size, do we just need a good sales manager instead?

For a small dealership, you should probably be able to MCR(manage customer relations) without an expensive system.

Remember that even with a system, you need people willing and able to work it.

Just my 2 cents.

Many of the manufactures (Ford, GM, for example) have systems that will generate letters and followup tools that cost about the same as a postage stamp...and they do all the work. For a small dealer, that seems to me to be a more effective way to approach this than a complex, expensive CRM tool. Try talking to your manufacture rep and see what they have to offer. Of all the vendors you do business with, the manufacturere is the only one who has a vested interest in your success.
