RSG complience????

RSG complience????

My store is a small Chev/Olds/Caddy store. When I went on rsg 2 years ago, 90% of the part numbers were NS, over 50% no sale ever. Since I had just taken over, and knew that lost sales were not recorded properly, I took a chance. Now, less than 2% of the RSG numbers are 12 mns. (Proof that lost sales were not being recorded!)

Separate source for rsg is essential! Pricing and stocking criteria is easily managed on ADP (Another Darned Problem) computer. I have set up 1 in 12 to stock, less that 1 in 12 to AP in my rsg source. Since add/delete reports are no loner available for quarterly rsg updates, I copy and paste the new list and Detail Parts List (DPL report) of my rsg source into an Excel spreadsheet and generate my own add/delete report to move parts to and from the rsg source. Email me if you would like to know more or need spreadsheet formulas.

I am generally sceptical of GM programs, especially when they want me to spend money with them, but this one has really worked well for me.

PS - rsg has added and deleted 12 to 18 part numbers at the end of each month for the last 3 months, and gm can't tell me what's going on. This only really matters if you are right on the 90% border line or if you source rsg seperatly. I'll post something if I find out what's going on. Email me if you want more details on this.

RSG complience????

We started working on RSG' a year and a half ago.....did pretty good in 1999, hit it 10 monthes out of 12. They 2 monthes we missed? Nov/Dec, after we changed PDC's. So far this year, i havn't hit it yet, mainly because they moved the target so far. We have to stock less part #'s/dollars with the new PDC, but they aren't even close to the old #'s from the old PDC. RSG money accounted for almost $10,000 in profits last year, so I know I don't want to leave that kinda money lieing on the table, but it gauls me that I am having to add so MUCH new stock to try to keep up, and try to get rid of the old at the same time. It is a catch-22, BUT I will say this....if you're not trying to get that money, you owe it to yourself and your owner to look very closely at what it would take to get 90%. Oh, by the way, I checked right about the time we switched PDC's; RSG over 12 monthes was about $1,000. Not bad out of $200,000 in inventory at the time, huh?

PS, we're on EDS, which automatically updates daily, unless you turn the feature off.

Just as Dan and RIchard feel - it's CASH!

You're spending money with GM anyway. Why not try to get 2% of that back?

I run a report after each daily stockorder to see if anything got missed and add to the order as necessary. Each morning I run the report again (actually it's queued to run automatically) and then send my inventory to GM to be sure I'm updated on rapid for compliance.

If you don't have enough part numbers on file, simply add the lowest dollar cost items you can find. You might have to spend a couple of hundred dollars instead of a couple of thousand dollars to make it.

I haven't had a problem meeting it for a couple of years now and I too found that we've made sales on items after stocking it. Although I know that my people are posting most lost sales (another report out of R&R) I'm sure they don't post everything. Giving them the part to sell today certainly produces results.

Stephanie,

I've worked with an RSG guide for 7/8 years, since we were on the pilot program for GPS at our single-line Olds store.

I'm over 90% every month and do have concerns about some 24 mns parts. But that's the cost of getting $800 to $1,000 back each month.

I use a special code as a second bin location. I do have to purify the list each quarter, but can do a lot of special reports using this bin2 as a selection criteria. And you can leave your parts in their own sources.
