Shop supplies

Do you guys charge shop supplies on every ticket no matter what? I think it's pushing it to charge it on a ticket that is strictly, pulling a code or programming something. I just had a good wholesale customer of mine come in to have a BCM programmed. They were supposed to just plug it in and program it. His complaint is that for one, they charged him an hour and half instead of an hour because they considered plugging it in installing it even though they left it dangling in the car, and two that they charged him shop supplies (being a shop, he knows better) and three the SM was a "smarta$$" in his opinion ( SM hates other shops and doesn't want them to bring any of the their work here).

SM needs to pull his head out and realize that out side shops are a LARGE part of your customer base and that good service to them "usually" reflects in a "referal". Treat them like poop and guess where they send their customer when it is a dealer only type job. Top it off with, if they cahrged them for an "install" and left it hanging, then they left you open for legal action. The SM sounds like a "premadona" to me.

zep33, yout a person of many words!

Shop supplys should be treated on a repair by repair basis, not everthing should have a charge. I would be ticked if I had to pay ss on a program key repair knowing parts is already charging me 50.00 plus to pull the code, and the new keys/fobs and labor.

I'm glad you guys agree. I always disliked his disdain for independent shops. Most of these guys I really like and enjoy doing business with them. They don't ever return anything, they pick up 99.9% of their special orders and are generally very easy to work with. The next closest GM dealer is half an hour away and too busy for words. So these guys are a little backed in a corner, but when they know a program is an hour, they sell it to their customer before bringing the vehicle in, so now this guy is hung for $65. Not cool.

I actually thought you were talking about our SM he is the same way, but then again he is like that with customers too. He would have retired but I don;t think his wife wants him at home with her either. I wait until he goes away from the desk and talk to the advisor to set up times for other shops.
