What can you put on the keyring after the recall?

What can you put on the keyring after the recall?

Postby drapp » Tue May 06, 2014 12:14 am

I try to read every GM message but there are so many I suppose I can't remember them all. Has anyone seen in print the official GM position on keyring contents after the recall?

Can our customers reinstall their key ring "stuff?" We have seen some pretty wild stuff on some of these keyrings. Some of these key chains likely weigh in over one pound. One even had a small purse attached, held credit cards, license, and coins, etc.

Great question!

We've all seen key"rings" that could be used for Olympic events!

Pretty sure I've read that they want nothing on the key ring at all(even a remote) even after the recall has been done

Customer letter attached to 14133B (newly released revision)

Dear General Motors Customer:
As part of the repairs to your vehicle for the ignition switch and ignition cylinder safety recalls, you have been provided new keys with a round hole (rather than a slot) on new 13mm (1/2”) key rings. These components are specifically designed to work together for your safety.
Only use the new keys and rings that have been provided to you by your dealer. Destroy any old slotted keys you still have that have not been turned into your GM dealer. Your GM dealer will provide replacement keys for your vehicle free of charge for the life of the vehicle. If you obtain an ignition key elsewhere, always use a key of the exact same hole design as the repair key, including shape, size and key hole.
Use only the single (1/2”) key ring provided by your GM dealer. It is small and light to help prevent contact with you or parts of the vehicle while driving. Keep no more than one or two essential keys and the key fob (if equipped) on the ring. Do not attach anything else to the key ring. A heavy or large key ring or chain, or items on the ring or chain that contact vehicle components or the driver MUST be avoided because they can affect the safe operation of the vehicle.

Wow!! Can't believe I missed that free for life of vehicle thing first time I read the 14133B update. Hope they let us know how we're supposed to be getting reimbursed for all those free keys.
