wholesale and the penske group

I have noticed lately that Roger Penske Jr has been acquiring dealers on the west coast. Do any of you know if his group is active and agressive in the wholesale market?

Penske is a great company to work for. I spent many years with them and really appreciated the structure of the stores managing themselves. The corporate communications gave you data to make best informed decisions and would meet with the dealership management quarterly.

I tell you this so you can understand my answer: they didn't encourage/discourage wholesale business. In my experiences they were looking for clean, professional, profitable business decisions that made customers happy. But the reality of wholesale dealership business very few turn a real profit and most are losing money. Even the largest wholesalers in the country are profitable because of outside agreements. So don't expect them to try and steal your wholesale customers

I agree, although I believe they are just wanting the sale they ain't worried to much about making a profit on one part because they move a lot of wholesale at the end of the month there gross percentage is low but there gross is still there because of the volume they sell. It's a little bit different thinking but when the word gets out that these guys are cheaper then the competitors they are going to the Penske dealer. We just need to stay in our territory and take care of who we got- I try and send my wholesale guy out At lest 2 times a month but the key is customer service and being able to get the parts to the shop as fast as possible with no freight its a tough market but it's upto us to hold down the fork.
