R&R SECONDARY MAKE CODES

R&R SECONDARY MAKE CODES

Postby johnmc98 » Mon Jan 12, 2015 5:56 pm

Just wondering how you all are putting parts purchased from NAPA or other aftermarket sources into your system. At the Ford store I was at previously, we had source make codes for Ford-FO, Ford Heavy Truck-FT, Cummins-CU, Caterpillar-CA, and so on. These were stocking sources in our system. Any outside purchases we got were put onto the repair order or invoice as make ZL and sold as an in and out sale. The GM store I am at now has us putting all of the parts we buy from parts stores into the system under make GM. This to me looks odd, as you have parts that are put into the system and if they are taken off an RO and sent back, unless you think to adjust qty on hand down you still show this on your inventory. Anyone know if there is a way to activate the additional makes on Reynolds to take all this off-brand stuff out of my inventory?

I don't add the parts into my system unless I have to. The ones that are added are GM make and sourced separately. When I sell a non GM part I use sell only and do an in and out sale. Seems easier to me this way. When I do have to add something so I can make a credit memo, I immediately go in and minus back out and set it to delete status.

We have been on ADP since last February but when we were on R&R, there was a make called XA that was a "universal" make that could be used for whatever. We used it to separate the dealership's inventory from the warehouse's inventory before we consolidated them into one. You might give that a shot.
The downside is you would have to punch in the make (GM or XA) every time you access a job/screen. It would probably be better to just set up a source just for those parts.

Yeah that was the thing we did at the Ford store I was at, you just typed in = and whichever make code you wanted to change over to on the system. Since we had multiple codes on our system is was set up default to FO, and you could type =FT and change to heavy truck or =CA and change to Cat, and so on. Somewhere in my looking on our reynolds system I have seen a ZL make code there, but have not found out what to do to turn it on.

I would advise against setting up additional makes. If you do, you will have to enter the make code EVERYWHERE. If you have only one make, this is an unnecessary PITA. Just do them as sell onlys or put them into a different source.

ZL and ZR are generic make codes and are used for aftermarket parts.

XA-XZ make codes are known as child makes-- they are related to a real manufacturer. Child makes are ideally used for when you have a satellite location with the same make of parts. With a child make, you can have the same part number with different QOH and bin locations.
