High Density Parts Bins

Anybody here using them? How do you like them?

love them.... saves a ton of room... we have 15 Stanley Vidmar cabinets that have 8-12 drawers in each. great for faster moving parts.

Yes, they are great. We have Rousseau (sp.) in our MB store and Equipto in our VW store. I recommend the Equipto because they seem more modular and the installation and support was great. On the other hand we haven't had any real issues with either of them. I wish I had them in my GM store but it would be impossible to retrofit here.

The high density bins go all the way from the 'Vidmar' Bins; who were the first to produce them; there are several manufacturers who followed/copied them; to the vertical conveyor style that can do even more, but are more expensive, in compacting bin space. There are many dealers using both of them. How close are you to implementing this type of storage?

I recently took over a Toyota parts department that was kind of in chaos. no PM for the last 7 months and issues that went far longer than that. First thing I noticed when walking in was the inefficient shelving placement and they were still using the old plastic, red bins for the small stuff. Those were taking up a lot of useful space.

Last Friday, 2 Rousseaus showed up that they let me order. They do look nice but those metal dividers suck compared to what the Vidmar's used. I came from a GM store that had 21 Vidmars. Started working on the Rousseau bins Monday and found out they not only shorted us a bunch of the dividers, but their configuration for the divider kits don't even come close to reality of what is needed.

Those dividers for the Vidmars pop in and out with ease while the Rousseau dividers fight you every step and even cut me a couple times. I'm sure everything will be fine after all is said and done but the Vidmars are like comparing Led Zeppelin to a garage band.



On another note, I doubt you'll see me complaining about Toyota like I did with GM. They actually care about the dealer. I've returned $38,000 in parts these last 2 months. On the first return, it went back on a Thursday night and I had the credit on Monday morning. The 2nd return goes back tonight

I'm not sure when but my dealer seems to be getting the itch to go that route. Seems like it would slow things down to me
