We are not GM's customer; the stockholder is, we are a way for GM to deliver profit to the stockholders, and once they find a way around state franchise law, they will be done with dealers. I say this because if I treated my customers the way GM treated us, this place would be a ghost town. Just another abandoned places to end up on the pages of Atlas Obscura.

Thanks for the reply from all of you

The DMS will be Reynolds & Reynolds. While my new store does have Ignite i'm told none of the parts counterman use it. I'm very well versed in it at my current dealer. Although I still use blue screen for certain functions as I feel I can read it easier or it provides a better snapshot (2028, 2025 etc)

So with that being said i'll be ahead of the game once its used dealer wide

I haven't been briefed much about RIM. Coming from Mercedes, while I currently control my stock order they are rolling out automated stock orders already. ADP dealers first. Reynolds second. Our dealer is set to be on it in a matter of weeks.

I'm curious to know how much of the inventory is at my discretion? MB will allow for 10% manipulation of my choosing from what the suggest. Is RIM similar to this or a whole different ball game

I appreciate everyone's feedback.

You need to first and foremost get enrolled in GM's "Center of Learning" training program. It's mostly basic stuff, but there's answers to most of your questions on GM programs, EPC catalog, claims/ordering/communication through Workbench etc. which have become unnecessarily complicated. There are also many details you can learn from the Policy and Procedure manuals on Global Connect. Our forum here can help with shortcuts and individual experiences and best practices, but you need the outline to follow. Also check out the Dealer Fixed Operations Advisory Board (DFOAB) portal (have your Partner Security Coordinator (PSC) hook you up through GlobalConnect) for other timely subjects affecting Parts and Service and further reading.

We tend to rant here, and it can sometimes be discouraging for a noob.

Best of luck!

Congrats on the new position!! This forum will be a great resource for you and it has helped me tremendously with questions I had when I became a new parts manager. Follow
possum's advice and use the GM center of learning - it will help you understand the GM basics. You will have many challenges in GM parts to face but it's not so bad.

Always remember with GM "their not happy until you're unhappy" ;)

Congrats on the new position. I've been at it 5 years now as manager...Most important things are learning how to manage RIM properly so you don't get bogged down with parts that just sit on the shelf for 15+ months...and obviously making a profit for the department is priority #1. Get caught up on the GM Training and you should learn a lot...There are a ton of great resources and experience here in the forum as well. GOOD LUCK!
