Scrap a Transmission

Hello everyone,

We had a HD truck come in for a transmission recall where the whole unit was replaced, after submitting the warranty and waiting for it to be paid, it was determined by the manufacturer that they would like for us to scrap the campaign transmission assembly. I have never had to scrap a complete transmission before, so I am asking for suggestions, do i see which scrap yard or rebuilder will take it off my hands for a little money or should i find a way to just scrap it as is. 3,5, & R are gone on it.

There's no core charge on it? If not, just throw it in your scrap metal pile for the vultures. Don't get caught trying to sell it - that's a no-no

No core at all, my cost is $3.5k. I just called one of the local big boy wreckers and his answer was that they can not sell used parts legally unless they owned the vehicle. For Auditing, and insurance reasons of course. They'll also take it away from me for scrap at no charge. It's a 600lbs+ transmission. I don't know what to do with it.

If one of your techs doesn't want it to play with I would go with the wrecker that will scrap in no charge, just get a receipt with the part number on it. Warranty item being scrapped are supposed to rendered damaged beyond any use, and are not to be sold, rebuilt or enter the stream of commerce in any way

or donate it to a automotive college or trade school. I have received permission in the past from our GM rep to give an engine to a trade school.

Yeah, that was about writing off and scrapping new parts though
