Number Changes

Postby stevejm71 » Sat Jun 15, 2019 4:14 pm

Question for all the GM dealers out there. How do you handle number changes? When you have a quantity 1 of part# A on hand and it supersedes to part# B do you change the quantity to the new number also or do you do a delayed number change? Just wondering what the RIM implications are. It was my understanding that you leave the quantity with the old number so it could be returned to RIM if need be. Is that correct?

In your DMS you should supersede it using "replace by hold", this will keep the old part number in inventory until you sell out. Then it will switch over to the new number. However for RIM you need to go in and manually exclude the original part number or else it will keep ordering. Usually you will get a proposal for the new part number in a day or two.

I was told by DealerTrack installers that "replace by hold" is not an option in the system. Can a longtime user of this DMS please tell me more on part changes?
