PASE exempt part number for VCI

PASE exempt part number for VCI

From time to time we sell an accessory that requires the vehicle configuration information (VCI) to change. Most of the time the accessory has a number in the box that allows the VCI to be changed without cost. This is not always the case. Diesel idle time is an example.

Question: How are you billing the customer for the VCI charge and not taking a hit on the PASE program?

Since these VCI changes are technically software they can be subject to sales tax in some areas. If billed on our DMS we need to show it as a part in order to tax it.

PASE help desk response was they don't have an exempt part number. We need to bill it then apply for an exemption.

Why is it always our - extra - job to fix?

Does your DMS give the option to tax sublet? That is probably how I would handle it here...bill it on a sublet line.
