ATTEMPTED PARTS SCAM

ATTEMPTED PARTS SCAM

Postby Parts007 » Wed Nov 30, 2022 8:17 pm

FYI TO EVERYONE:

Co-worker took an over-the-phone order for $4000 worth of body parts. The guy said it was a Xmas gift for his kid. Co-worker took a card number and charged the full amount. Customer ordered one day, called and canceled the order the next day. Stated his kid was in jail. Co-worker took a credit card and refunded the whole transaction. (Parts not picked up).

Turns out the caller gave a different credit card number to credit the transaction. Hence the SCAM!

Caller had a Portland OR phone number (503) 512 xxxx

wow, that's a new one on me

The refund card was probably his own so he can keep the money - Time to get on the phone with the card company to get the douche identified

But they're gonna yell at you for taking a different card than the original purchase

Probably used his own phone too

This doesn't sound "attempted" to me. The original card would be stolen so you're gonna eat that charge when reported as such. And you're gonna lose the $4000 credit unless you can get it reversed - At least you got the parts

Got some work to do

Had same thing here but company policy is no credit issued without same card/number. Got stuck with $1750.00 in parts but they will sell sooner or later.

any thing over $800.00 we make the customer come in so they have to sign for the purchase and we make a copy of their drivers id , we also use cenpos simple cashier program, it stores the credit card info so they cant do as you described

FOLLOW UP TO THE STORY.

A person from other side of the USA called us and asked about a fraudulent charge of $4062 against his company credit card. Person states his card has been used at 15 car dealers.

Agree 35%, if they bitch and moan the GM restock fee rate is buried somewhere in the P and A procedures manual and the customer can get over it.
