This is indeed a terrible program, as crap rolls down hill and the Parts Department ultimately has to deal with it. I have worked at three different dealerships, and the process is pretty similar for each one. Here is how we handle it. The part show's up and depending on what it is, it gets staged in either the Parts Department or the New Vehicle Prep Department. Parts holds onto anything a technician puts on, New Vehicle Prep puts in floor mats/liners, etc. Every PDI inspection we receive from Service, a parts counterperson will go to the staging area and pull them for the Technician. However, there are a few flaws with all of this. In some circumstances, Sales will dealer trade the vehicle before any of this happens. At which point Parts will then have to Ship the parts or the Sales team hires a driver to deliver them to whomever they traded it to. And for all that work, Parts may possibly get a bonus (if certain sales criteria for the month happens) from GM. They should really think about revamping it. But I doubt that'll ever happen.
