Three Paint Code Calls Today ??

Three Paint Code Calls Today ??

Postby greenthumb-38 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 11:04 pm

Anyone else getting calls for paint codes... none are from our customers. Three today, and have had a few more in the past week.

I interrogated the last caller, an insurance adjuster from Chicago working from home, or so he said. Area code 312.

It used to be the question, "Do these two VIN numbers take the same engine (or transmission)??" Recently paint codes....

Thankfully i don’t get those calls. Only time I get paint code calls are from the parts stores that either can’t find the code in their books or they’re ordering paint from me. They call with last 8 of vin and are pleasant to talk to.

The one call that irritates me to no end is the salesman that spoofs his number all the time. I don’t have time for that crap.

I get on average 2-3 a day. Mainly from paint supplier here in town. Not a huge deal except when its swamped . I would rather have these then the goofs that want part numbers for the 72 vette they just bought. Or better yet getting chewed out because I did not have an ignition lock cylinder for a 1952 truck.

Here's what we do:

Non-customer: Hello I need to know( paint code, option code, part number, or something else that will just waste your time with out any intention of buying anything).

Me: I'm sorry, our internet is down, I can't help you.

We had one where the guy gave us the wrong vin so he painted a fascia the wrong color.
He knew it was the wrong vin as we have two stores, he had one store tell him it was the wrong vin, we looked up the part without the vin and sold him the part.
He then called our 2nd store on the phone to get the paint code.
Now he wants us to pay to repaint it.

Even a liability in handing out part numbers. we had to reimburse a customer for a wrong part they bought online because apparently we supplied the wrong part number... and the online store had a no return policy.

I call BS! Even if you give the correct part number, who says they sent the correct part? At my last store, that is one of the exact reasons i would state, upon telling the customer why i don't give out part numbers to anyone. Here, the folks in charge say "Do it." (Another bs deal)
