What has been stolen at your store???

Once in a while the moderators allow a silly posting. Here's hoping this one survives.

I am wondering what is the wierdest thing someone has stolen from your store? Or how much effort someone put in to stealing something.

Such as a few years back someone actually crawled under a pickup and disassembled the rear axle to steal the case assembly. This involved jacking up the truck to slide the axles out. When finished they slid the axles back in place, put a small rock under the tire so it wouldn't roll and lowered the truck. We didn't know anything until someone tried to move the truck and it wouldn't "go". Looking under the truck we saw the drive shaft spinning, crawled under the rear bumper and saw the cover and all the "guts" gone.

Of course we have had the car on the ground missing all four wheels and tires.

Trucks missing tailgates.

Vettes and Camaros missing t-tops.

Even had one truck with the sliding rear window stolen - near the front of the lot.

When I first took this job the DP was worried someone was stealing parts (inventory shortages) I think it was the prior manager and a lack of knowledge but...
We invested in a $5k security alarm/camera system for the parts department.

About a month goes by and the cashiers deposit bag goes missing?
So the DP immediately gets me to pull the cameras up and it takes about 15 minutes to see someone walk through shop and into the waiting room at 10pm and back out the door.

At close (7pm) you could barely make out the cashier ending the day in the waiting room watching tv.
So long story short we determine the night watchman was the one in the building at 10pm.
He comes in the next day and denies everything until the dp pulls out some printscreens of him a week before and the day of theft.
Night watchman never noticed that we had put in cameras
He found money, never clocked in and called in sick -spent the money overnight (on who knows what) and was fired the next day.
I worked with that dp for 15 years and
I never saw him so excited. He said "That was the best $5k I ever spent"

we just had thieves attempt to steal the cat. converters off 7 Nissan Titans on our lot; however they evidently weren't too well trained, they took the resonators instead and left the converters!

20+ yrs ago I worked for a large Dodge store outside of DC. We had a porter putting gas in the DP's car (pump on site) and decided to take the DP's briefcase phone (pre cell phone era) and then deny that he took it even though he was the only one in the DP's car that day.
Also had another porter that was spose to park a customers car that was brought in for service keep going off the lot. He drove it right in one shop door out the other kept going (we didn't know it was missing for several hours) he brought it back that evening ,left it in the sub shop parking lot next door. We didn't know what had happened to it or how it got in the sub shop lot till we found a picture that he had taken of himself and his girlfriend posing next to the car...

Once had service manager that would take customer pay ro's that were paid for in cash and change them to warranty or service policy and then tell the cashier he was going to refund the customers money to them. Cashier didn't know any better and she would give him the cash to give back to the customers.

he pocketed about 8k ( that they know of) when they caught him.
