GM shutting down WDs?

Tony it is basically like this. You currently can buy AC Delco from whomever you choose. Come august 1, 2002. You cannot!! You can only buy delco from your area Delco WD. It does not matter which Delco supplier gives you the best deals or who has the best inventory or the best service!! You can only buy from the Delco WD that is Zoned to your Dealership PERIOD! And to make up for the money that the Delco WD's are going to loose, they can now set up a sattelite store that sells directly to Installers!

GM shutting down WDs?

I like many other Parts Managers across the nation are obviously upset with the new ruling GM handed down. Altough I have seen this happen before with Ford. You can still purchase from your current WD (ex. JI) after August 1 with no penalty to the dealer. Although come next year when it is time for your WD to renew their contract with GM, GM may choose not to renew it. The real truth is us as dealers can write letters, make phone calls and try to put a halt to this but all the efforts we make will not change the way GM is going to do business.

I learned a few years back that the only thing you can ever guarantee is CHANGE!!!!!

Time for all of us to step back and sharpen our pencils and rethink how to recover the loss of this bottom line profit producer.

I guess you must bleed GM Blue. Have you seen the discount change for your dealership yet, and the impact it will have on your profit? I know when your local goes to your customers and opens a retail store, you will then see the impact. The difference with ford is that they have always worked with there motorcraft distributors and not against them. If GM new discount plan is so great why did they only tell you about the $10 field scrap going up and not the rest. I will tell you it is because they are about to increase there profit by at least 30% in this one change. If you have only one delco distributor in your area, do you think that they will give you a long deal or make money on emergency purchasing. Max deal will be 6% off dealer. Sorry just upset is all.

DCHARETTE, YOUR ARE RIGHT WITH FORD & MOTORCRAFT. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BEEN TO WALMART, AUTOZONE, ETC.... AND HAVE SEEN MOTORCRAFT SITTING ON THE SELF OR ADVERTISED!!! BUT NOW ON THE OTHER HAND DELCO IS EVERYWHERE!!! AND NOW IT IS GOING TO WORSE THAN IT IS NOW WITH DELCO WD'S SELLING DIRECT TO THE PUBLIC & INSTALLERS.
