BobDavis the R&R system is pretty simple for the physical inventory process and there are no shortcuts that I am familiar with. Most of the time savings will be in your department setup. Here are a few tips that I know work:

* Elimination of run-on bins is a huge timesaver, especially in the variance phase. Most common run-on bin locations are those such as tires, retail, display, etc.

* Make sure all parts are bin located in the DMS. Most parts managers don't have a bin location for special ordered items and just group them together in an area, possibly in alphabetical order, but never have an actual bin location. This also includes overstock. Not everything can fit in your original bin location so overstock is put somewhere else but the secondary bin location doesn't get added into the dealer management system.

* Are the parts on your shelf in proper sort order? If the parts do not lineup the same way as the bin sheets the count teams have to hunt on the count sheets or write-in items they couldn't find.

* The biggest problem is the easiest to correct (and the most confusing that it happens); make sure all parts have part numbers on them. Many places don't put part numbers on tires, retail items, aftermarket items, etc.

* Lastly and most important, have a very good key puncher and a backup. Use of other departments employees will cut down on the time and increase the integrity of the process.
