Ign. switch recall.

It is now after 9:00 PM eastern. I have been trying all day to place SPAC cases on 1, then 2 and now 3 swithes. Cannot get it done. Both workbench and EPIC are failing. Last order doesn't even show as a backorder and it was ordered nearly 5 hours ago.

The time spent on this is simply lost. The service manager is spending too much time dealing with customers on this problem every day. We are starting to have parking issues with all the Cobalts being stored here - customer in rentals.

If these switches miss their promise date we will have an even worse situation. The problem is EVERYONE is expecting their switch to arrive on the first day. No way 1.6 million swithes are going to ship on day one.

Why GM didn't simply commit to a preshipment of these switches is beyond me.

Also keep in mind a lot of these same vehicles will be back for the re-recalled steering motor. If we could get parts for those now maybe we could do them both at the same time. Unfortunately GM has not released the procedure and part numbers so we don't know if the same motor part number will be used.

These owners are going to destroy us on surveys. Of course they will think they are destroying GM but we will get hammered. GM can put the SFE money toward the recall cost.

These recall customers will NOT be getting surveys according to GM because they know we would get crucified.

cville1987 I sure do hope you're right. They need to make an exceptions on recalls.

Regarding upgrading to SPAC cases:

Was informed by an agent this morning that the system will probably not accept SPAC cases on anything, including non-recall parts, at the present time.

Spent all afternoon yesterday attempting to add SPAC case on two critical non-recall parts, no go. Again this morning. NO go.

From our rep:

Concern:

Service Managers are worried about potential hits to their CSI due to this recall. For example, having to wait on Enterprise to get them a car, 1-2 hours. Will we be doing anything to help offset potential bad surveys that really were at no fault of the dealer?

Answer:

Ignition Switch recall customers will not receive a CSI survey. Additionally, the recall will not affect their SASR rankings. Please communicate accordingly.

Geez - the news channel I watch in the morning before work was reporting this morning that today is the day people can start bringing their car in to any GM dealership to get their ignition switch replaced.

Oh boy, here they come and no parts to be found....

Initial supply was supposed to be 40,000, so I guess it will depend on where our SPAC Cases fall as to when and how many we will receive during the first phase.
