We have a Mazda store in our group that has pretty much been let go. Put a new manger in there, and I have given him the task of getting the store ready for an inventory. Believe it or not an inventory has not been performed since the store was purchased in 2007. Anyway, the young man that has taken over has GM experience but Mazda is a new make for him. In GM you generally lay your bin out in class-part number sequence, with Mazda the class is contained in the middle group of numbers in the part number. He is attempting to layout the department using that group, which is fine, except for inventory time. I cannot think of a way to print INS bin sheets in the order he is using.
I know it sounds like heresy to GM managers, but I am almost thinking the best course of action is to just give each of the bins a BIN-SHELF assignment. So the first shelf in bin 20 would be 20A, the next shelf would show 20B in the bin field, and so on.
What are everyone's thoughts?
Thanks,
Gerry
