Core returns WD or GM?

I usually just return all of my cores to GM instead of sending some to GM and others to the WD. It's easier for me to just keep all cores in one place and not worry whom gets what. Is there any down side to this. I don't know if it effects accounting or other reports.

How do you handle cores?

Thanks Dave

Watch your WD's. Ours adds a couple of bucks to every core hoping you return them to the General and they make a couple of bucks.

GM district reps used to be able to pull a core report. This report showed cores purchased vs. cores returned. The report was normally used for one of two reasons.

1 - If GM found a dealer consistently returning more cores than purchased they knew something was up. Either dealer was purchasing from WD or in extreme cases for cores not requiring package (cat converter) something "interesting" could be happening. GM consult usually followed.

2 - If GM found a dealer consistently returning less cores than purchased they MAY check into this as well, depending on dealership. Obviously if the dealer was a large wholesale operation then this could easily apply. However, it also may indicate a dealer is selling cores on the open market - to other scrap people.

Don't put yourself in either situation. Return the core to where you purchased it - unless you purchased from another dealer, then send it to GM.

My 2 cents

remember your month-end rebates are based off purchases LESS returns. So if you don't return them to the WD your losing that money. That's another way these "truckload" dealers make it cause they never get cores back from Dealers.
