i'm on reynolds, and i have a service manager who likes to play parts man. to say it bothers me is a mild understatement. any way i can shut that down?

today, one of our service writers brought over a repair order for me to order parts. he says that they are also going to put a steering i-shaft on the car. i glance down while the writer is still talking about the i-shaft, and i see no mention of the shaft on the repair order. upon my questioning, the writer says "oh, the manager looked it up, you should have it on the shelf."

i said, "fine. i'll take care of it."

is there a way in reynolds to keep service people out of knowing what i have on the shelf unless i tell them what i have?

I imagine you have SPG? That usually tells the inventory and even matrix price if you use one. I personally don't think it's that big of a deal, they are selling the parts on your shelves. We need to break down these walls between depts that have been built up for some reason (probably due to competing pay plans.) I'm sure SPG has some discrepancies, but it is a good tool that promotes transparency and keeps things consistent between staff.

If he's going to look up his own parts, they could at least give you the part number. Otherwise its a big waste of time. It's like the techs that look up a recall or service bulletin and don't bring you the numbers specified (which usually are not in the EPC) and you have to log on to SI and look them up AGAIN.

When I was on Rey-Rey, I was a big fan of SPG. However, make sure your matrix price (if used) is being seen & have them write down the part # on the RO.
