Wheel Locks

We have a policy here that requires all vehicles have wheel locks installed before they are put on the lot. We bill them to the PDI RO or internally via a stock number on a counter slip. When the car is sold, more often than not, I have to credit back the part to the stock number. Therefore we install ( and uninstall ) lots of used wheel locks. I've already come to grips with the absurdity of the this process but selling them at the low markup of list for accessories drives my internal markup numbers down. My DP wonders why my internal markup number is so low even when I sell other recond parts at cost times two. Anyone think I need to put wheel locks in their own source and hit another account ? Which account ? GM dealer here and fairly new to it, came from Toyota. DealerCrack is our DMS. Thanks for any help !

I would bill them out and leave them billed out. If Sales cant absorb a $50 set of locks they're incompetent. Then when they take them off, keep them for the next vehicle, but don't bill them out again. After a while you have a complete set for all of your lot vehicles bought and paid for.

That's most of the problem, sales can't absorb the $ 40-90 dollars for wheel locks.

At some point some department needs to absorb these into their expenses. Either advertising or office supplies or training expense or anywhere. Maybe even shop tools. Your Owner ought to know better than this.

Shop Tools, Bill them once save yourself all the rest of the work. Then you can catch that pokemon thing with all of your new found spare time.

Problem with billing them once and forgetting is they expect the stock no. to be billed and then credited back if the vehicle sells without the locks on it. And the best part is, at this time of the year they get a lot of 16's in to sell and deplete me of lock sets. I have to order new and then get them returned a few month later. You can't make this stuff up :x

Maybe bill them, initially, to Sales Expense/Cost of Sales, and not the stock number. Then if the vehicle sells and the customer wants them, sales can have you bill the replacement set to the stock number, as if it is a new accessory sale. If they can tell you to make a credit, they can tell you to make a bill.
