SRTA Trans Warranty question....

SRTA Trans Warranty question....

Postby partsman103 » Tue Oct 04, 2016 3:37 pm

We have a local parts store (Mom&Pop Parts Store)pricing / selling GM SRTA transmissions and telling purchasers the SRTA's carry a 3yr/100k warranty on the Parts and Labor.
My question is this. Can a parts store purchase a SRTA from a dealer, turn around and re-sale to Joe Blow (the customer) and still offer the warranty? I ask this question because a guy came in to our service dept complaining about a shifting issue on a SRTA trans he purchased 3 months ago. When we asked for proof of purchase he produced a receipt from this Mom& Pop Store showing where he purchased the SRTA unit.
I always thought in order to get the 3yr/100k warranty the purchaser had to:
1- purchase from an authorized GM Dealer
2- Installed by an Authorized Dealer/ Independent Repair facility.

*ETA:
I'm currently researching this via P&P manual and was hoping someone already knew the answer.

I assume you're in Parts; Get your Service manager and GM rep involved because it will require authorization. I would also call the GM wholesale powertrain assistance center 1-866-637-2787 they will give you a case or authorization number (I have called them myself, explain that you're calling from the selling dealer). This will be a touchy issue, especially if you "implied" the warranty when you sold it, knowing full well that the Mom and Pop wasn't installing it.

Sorry for not being clear and not providing enough info. So let me add:

* The Mom and Pop Parts Store (MPPS) purchased the trans from an out of state GM dealer, not from us. We are not the selling dealer.
* MPPS then sold GM Trans to an individual and MPPS told the purchaser he had a 3yr/100k Parts and Labor warranty from GM...and warranty is good at any GM Dealer.
* Purchaser had an issue and came to us. We asked for invoice and customer produced invoice from MPPS and not from GM dealer.
* Service Mgr Informed customer that we could not honor the warranty because invoice reflects he did not purchase SRTA from a GM dealer.

warranty starts the day the mom n pop store purchased it from the dealership. the m&p store owns the warranty so they would have to process the warranty with the dealership that they purchased it from. warranty would be PARTS ONLY since it was not installed at the dealership.
