RIM Protected??

When we sell a RIM controlled part and RIM picks up the part to replenish, the sold part gets returned within a few days, leaving me with 2 now. Will both parts be protected? or just the one RIM replenished?
The reason I ask is, I have some aged inventory with RIM order numbers 18mns. After looking at its transactions in PDA. I see where RIM requested 1 to return, leaving me 1 to return using my reserve.
Is this the way RIM works or do I have something else going on?

If the first one was ordered by RIM, you sold it, RIM sent you another, and then the first one was returned by the customer it should be covered.

Call the RIM helpdesk and they can add it to your next return.

I have been told that if you sell a part at the end of one month and the customer returns it after the first of the next month REAM may not recognize it. IE sale on March 28th and returned on April 5th. I also have a lot of parts that I go to manually return and they have a pick ticket with R order type. RIM also said you can call them when you get these types of returns and they will INVESTIGATE and maybe give you an return authorization. Who the hell has the time to go through all this BS. We used to have a inventory control system that we pay a lot of money each month to control our inventory.......oh wait .... we still do pay a lot of money but it just doesn't control anything. What a mess

According to RIM it should be protected, it just won't show protected for 9 months. I run across this a couple months ago.

Chuck is correct.
RIM part sold in one month and returned in another requires a call to RIM DA to add protection for the returned part(s).
However, the last sale date will reset the 15 mns time-clock all over again.

There are also occasions where out of stock conditions occur and CSO orders are placed for RIM managed parts while they are already 'On Order' thru RIM and technically those would fall under the CSO criteria and would be in excess of SPQ. If the only one that gets sold happens to be the one that was CSO'd, the system will treat the remaining one as the one that was CSO'd and it won't have protection. SIDE NOTE: If you are aware of the need of an out if stock RIM part THAT ALREADY HAS AN ON ORDER LINE THRU RIM, you can cancel and REPOST the RIM ordered line as a Special Ordered line avoiding the CSO excess. When the part arrives it will post as a RIM purchase.

I've also seen occasions where the newest number in the EPC gets ordered and noone is aware that the part is in stock under an old number. When this happens, sometimes RIM in fact recognizes the supersession, sees the receipt of the new number out of RIM management, yet records the sale under the old number on file, therefore removing the protection that was covering the oldest number. Crap deal is counterman isn't even aware of supersession exists and the opportunity to get rid of old number is foregone. When this can be proven, protection will be renewed, but, once again, the last sale date on the new number will reset the 15 mns time-clock.

Sorry if that was more info than you were looking for.

Happy Thanksgiving

jdpetey, that is a lot of good stuff. I have been with GM just about 4 years and in the parts business 27 years. Still learning this RIM control process. I appreciate the info, any idea where I can learn more on RIM within global?
I went to the Global's library a few months ago, found some information on it. But not like what you explained. Thanks again.
