Secondary warehouse

We are currently moving our wholesale dept. to a warehouse down the road and would like to be able to bill from both inventories from one location. Ideally, I would like to set up a second store in Reynolds but this is proving cost prohibitive. I thought about using separate makes for each warehouse, but this is not an option either. Does anyone out there in reynoldsland have any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

I would setup separate sources so you know which building the parts are in.

I wish you luck.

Our warehouse is away from the dealership. When we were on Reynolds (on CDK now), we had a separate make for each. We could bill out of either by changing between makes but had to essentially "sell" stock to the dealership. Then they had to receive them like an outside purchase. We had some parts stocked in both places under separate makes. At inventory time, we had to do 2 separate inventories. Messy.

We consolidated to one make and made the dealership's bins unique to them (a different prefix). A part # is either stocked there or at the warehouse. When stock comes in, the driver just has to take it to the dealership and they put it on the shelf. Much easier for the people at the dealership. Certainly not perfect but ok.

I had heard something about having a "child" make on ReyRey but never found much about it.

Thank you for your replies. I should however mention I will be keeping part numbers in BOTH warehouses.....

Agreed. That's what they wanted here:

Them: "You can have 2 bin locations."
Me: "Yes, but you won't know which bin they're in."
Them: "Huh?"
Me: " Say we're showing 10 of part# 123456 with bin locations A & B. We won't know if there are 5 in A and 5 in B, 2 in A and 8 in B, 0 in A and 10 in B, etc."
Them: "What?"
Me: "Trust me. It won't be good."

I finally got my point across. Granted, sometimes I would love to have 2 locations but, to me, the bad outweighed the good.

I had this issue when I was with a store that had a quick lube located a mile from the dealership. They sold wipers, filters, tires, etc. We stocked the same parts at both locations too. It is a lil tricky and demands some work on your part.
I can explain more on how we did it if you email me.

Adding on another store would be overkill. Adding on a branch to your existing store is an option but there is a cost. What you likely want to use is child makes. Set up a child make in 2322 (I think-- its been a while for me). A child make is related to a normal make code. This will allow you to have separate sources and more importantly, the same part number twice. This will let you maintain separate QOH and bins... well separate everything practically.

Here is a post from 2007 about this: https://forums.dealersedge dot com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1429

When we were on Reynolds, we used XA as a second make for the dealership. It was already setup when I came here.

We went to ADP/CDK in 2014 so it became a moot point.
