Repair estimates

Just a question, when did people start thinking that an estimate for repairs on their vehicle means that it is an exact price quote? We get customers
all the time that get an estimate, then are P.O.ed because the job total on the repair order is not exactly what was on the estimate. I feel like telling
them to look up the definition of estimate in the dictionary.

If the "quote" is not clearly stated and printed as a "quote" they will almost always act this way. Best way is to have "All estimates are considered quotes until the Technician has determined the needs of the car and the customer" printed in bold type where all can see. If the customer is signing any document containing a quote; it should be clearly printed near where the customer signs.
