Do the diesel particulate filter cores need to be cut like convertor cores do?

My Administrative PDC is Los Angeles (85)... they say, "DO NOT CUT PARTICULATE FILTERS"

Mine is cut and ready to be returned, I think we have cut them before. I guess I'll see. I can't imagine they would want the pipe also.

GM is really lax on cores, so I hope it doesn't hurt you. But for the record, they don't recycle material within the DPF, they reman the unit like a starter. There's several independents in our area that "cook" them clean, but if the mesh is damaged it can also be replaced. Our local MACK dealer only charges a few hundred to do them overnite. These units can be reman several times.

Now on the other hand, GM's supplier may put new pipes on every time, that's why they cost so blame much.

We have sent several back. Aways cut. Never have had an Issue. We tried to send one back un-cut and the driver would not take it.

We have sent several back uncut with the ends taped up. No problems
