LPO " parts "

Is there a place anywhere that states the parts manager has to call about missing LPO's ? I'm always the one " to blame " when something is shorted, backordered or missing. And I am the one that " needs to call and find out what's going on " with that " part ".

What are your processes for checking in the product?

" Parts " are delivered to parts dept. Parts person checks to see that all of the " parts " are here. A copy of the invoice is made. One copy goes to SERVICE manager and another goes to TITLE CLERK. " Parts " are then moved to where the other LPO " parts " are stored.

Unless the parts department is getting paid to handle these LPO's it sounds like a job for the New Car Department.

AMEN, brother!

We had an instance last year where a shipment of LPO's got lost in transit. The new car manager and the service manager were both very quick to tell me that it was MY job to locate the parts. I was even quicker to let them know that in a normal circumstance where I am getting a part of the money made from the sale of said part, that they would be absolutely correct. But in this case, where they "Left Parts Out", they were just gonna have to handle it without me.

Coming from a Toyota background, this ridiculous system is news to me. So, is there anything written somewhere that says the parts dept is responsible for this. I don't want to ruffle feathers so I may just go on being their answer man.

If you mean something definitive like a Policy and Procedure's manual, that would be a big emphatic NO!

This is the tip of the iceberg for ridiculous when it comes to GM.

Welcome aboard.

LOL!

I feel everyone's pain with the LPO's. I seem to have rather consistent issues with LPO's between short ship/damaged wheels/wheel sets with missing labels etc.

I had 16 sets of 22" LPO wheels in the back of our parts department last week, and we could hardly move. Nothing like storing parts for free, chasing problems with their arrival for free, and handing them out for free!

Its a shame you cant order the pickup's with the 22" steel shipping wheels, and allow parts to at least order wheels from GM so we can make some money somewhere in it.

A heads up for LPO parts that arrive damaged, at least in Canada, you have 24hr to claim any damage to the parts. The 22" LPO wheels for the full size vehicles are horribly packaged and extremely susceptible to impact chips on the wheel lips. I check all of our LPO wheels the morning they arrive for damage.

Good luck!
