Next time Captiva calls you, check out the number they put in their system to show up on your caller ID.
Today's call "came" from a Pontiac Volvo Mazda dealer in NC.
I know they've been doing this quite some time but felt like posting about it this morning.
What a sleazy way to make sure someone answers the phone

I doubt it - they just electronically changing the # to look like a legitimate caller rather than the sleazy d-bags they are.
They use a different # every time they call

I had a independent shop that used to buy from them. When they decided to sell the shop the amount of bulbs, fuses, clamps, and other parts was out of this world. If I remember correctly they had over 150 10amp fuses, and over 100 194 bulbs.

Our dealership has no caller ID! We don't even have voicemail. I am usually pretty good when it comes to picking out the bums when I answer the phone. It is priceless silence when they ask for a generic manager without using a name, and I just tell them we don't have one.

Is spoofing illegal?
Under the Truth in Caller ID Act, FCC rules prohibit any person or entity from transmitting misleading or inaccurate caller ID information with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongly obtain anything of value. If no harm is intended or caused, spoofing is not illegal. Anyone who is illegally spoofing can face penalties of up to $10,000 for each violation. In some cases, spoofing can be permitted by courts for people who have legitimate reasons to hide their information, such as law enforcement agencies working on cases, victims of domestic abuse or doctors who wish to discuss private medical matters.
What are the FCC rules regarding caller ID for telemarketers?
FCC rules specifically require that a telemarketer:
â—¾Transmit or display its telephone number or the telephone number on whose behalf the call is being made, and, if possible, its name or the name of the company for which it is selling products or services.
â—¾Display a telephone number you can call during regular business hours to ask to no longer be called. This rule applies even to companies that already have an established business relationship with you.
How do I report suspected spoofing?
If you receive a call and you suspect caller ID information has been falsified, or you think the rules for protecting the privacy of your telephone number have been violated, you can file a complaint with the FCC.
