I am interested in hearing from as many as I can as to what the proper accounting of 'cores' and core value might look like.

Mike,
We are on R&R and use 2222 and 2213 to reconcile our used cores at EOM. When used cores leave the building I use 2010 to "MC" the core out. Cores, new and used, are kept in our normal "parts" GL. Any used cores "returned, not credited" are accounted for on the month-end rec to keep the pad with the GL# as accurate as possible. New cores of course, are listed on the 2213 report and included in the total parts value.

On CDK without Core-tracking

All aftermarket cores are tracked manually and returned for credit on same day - nothing builds up here.
All Factory cores are returned daily and kept track of on a spreadsheet - Toyota dealer so there aren't many.
New cores are tracked on the MGR report as a dollar value.

On Auto/Mate they have a report for clean cores and a core transaction report.
I review the transaction report monthly.
We charge out all cores on invoices and repair orders and remove/credit them once we receive the core back.

We are on Dominion/Access and they have a report that shows new cores and dirty cores in inventory. I check this report bi-monthly and we return dirty cores
bi-monthly. We charge the core out on RO's and Invoices and credit the core charge back when we receive the dirty core back into parts.
On aftermarket cores we also charge the core out on RO's and Invoices however we return the aftermarket core back to the vendor the same day or next day
whenever possible to avoid aftermarket cores from building up in our system.

Where are these reports? Splash Screen or F/O Mate?

F/O Mate. You may need to create them though. I had them setup when we switched.
