Let's Play a Game Called - Rate Your DMA

Disclaimer: I have been in dealership "management" since 1980, so I have seen my fair share of District Manager Aftersales (current GM name for your rep).

What do you think of your current representative? I am not interested in personal attacks. I want to know what you think of his / her ability / training / authority to actually do their job.

Of course that brings up another point - What do you think their (DMA's) job actually is?

Does your DMA do the whole dealership? Sales & Service / Parts? Or just part of it?

I am completely surprised each time our DMA shows up at the dealership. Why? It amazes me that they continue to show up when they haven't completed the promises / tasks from the last visit. Either ours is incredibly overworked or completely without a clue as to how to perform the task.

I've had 3 in the year and half or so with Toyota and they've all been great.

In fact, my current one just spent an entire day with me this week to learn more about how parts does things, from order placing, decisions, etc... She was really interested to learn our side of things. I was quite impressed that she took the time to do this. That was a first in almost 30 years.

Ours is 99.9% Service focused, so I couldn't really grade him per-se. He leaves me alone, cause I usually know all about the current programs and promotions. I ask for help on the occasional SPAC case and he always tries to get things going.

Ours really knows very little about the parts end of it. She mostly administers programs for service, it seems to be the highest priority for Gm. When I ask for help she tries too. I have noticed that they are gone to Atlanta for a week at the time several times a year so you have a DMA that's not available.

Mine's about as worthless are tits on a warthog. He never helps me with any questions I have had since I didn't have much training with GM management when I got into this position. Now, if he wants something done he is constantly on me to make sure it's done because it affects him. If it doesn't necessarily affect him he won't make the time of day. I've had the same few questions the last 6 months and I'm always given the same excuse why he doesn't have the answer for me. My service advisor has the same issues so we have to work together Him and I to get help from other sources. However, I now have the contact information for my Rep's boss and I can promise things will get helped along now
