Hey guys. I know there's just a couple of us here that work at Toyota but i was wondering if anyone who is has had to bill any R1234YF under warranty yet. We only have a couple vehicles out right now that take it and we've just run into our first need of it here.

We have the machine, I just got my first 10lb jug of brew but have no idea how we are supposed to bill it. Neither does my rep LOL. She's off to Vegas for SEMA for a few days so probably won't find out anything from her until next week. Our sister store hasn't needed to bill any out yet under warranty and our warranty clerk hasn't been able to find anything yet either. I looked all over Dealer Daily and came up with nothing as far as billing.

When I called Toyota a year ago to ask about purchasing some, they told me to get it from a GM dealer, hehe . I waited till we actually needed some before buying it and got it for about $300 less than I would have a year ago.

Anyone here from Toyota deal with this yet?

No real help, but here in GM land we sell it by the gram... yes I said gram.

Yeah, I was with GM when the stuff first came out.

I'll bet Toyota overall makes it a bit easier but I'm guessing it will be grams or ounces as well since it's so expensive.

We bill it out by the gram which equates to 10 grams equals 1 unit. Our min bill quantity is actually 1 unit. GM requires it be done this way for warranty transactions so I decided to handle customer pay transactions the same way to make life easier.

Refrigerant R-1234yf must be billed using a quantity of 1 for every 10 grams used (difference between the amount recovered and charged shown on the printed summary from the GE-50300 or GE-50300-A). Example: 0.600 kg charged - 0.390 kg recovered = 0.210 kg used. This translates to 210 grams. 210 divided by 10 = 21 (the amount to be entered in the part quantity field).

Toyota here. We haven't had the need yet. I asked my field tech rep and he has no idea either. Will be waiting to hopefully see a response with a solution.

From my warranty admin; who covers many Toyota stores in the north east:

Most dealers have used a pound and yes its expensive !! It ends up getting moved to sublet on my side for payment.
I suggest using actual quantities from the shop manual if its a recharge and the system is empty.

since there is no official part#, make up whatever you want, same as Scion FR-S F.P.I.G and have your warranty admin delete it from the parts side in CPS (not your DMS of course) and move it to the sublet side in CPS

Thanks lochstein. I haven't even put it into my inventory yet so it would be easy to switch to sublet if that's what we need to do.

The truck is coming in next Wednesday for an evaporator and some sauce so maybe I'll get an official answer by then. Service knows to just keep the RO open anyway until we do find out.
