GM AXLE SEALS

Postby CHUCKINPARTS » Tue May 30, 2017 8:51 pm

One of my guys had an issue on frt axle seals on a 2012 Terrain this morning. He told me we don’t have any of 24288436 or 24288437. After checking the catalog and calling our first Partech agent I could not believe we did not have any but even crazier was that nobody had one in 125 miles. WTH……… I looked the seals up with an AC delco online catalog and came up with 19258415 and 19258416 seals for a 6 speed MHC trans. These I have…………… I called Partech back and I asked if I was missing a part number change or what. After 3 to 5 minutes he said that the catalog was changed to the new numbers because the old numbers were unreliable. NO S#*t…………. He did not know why it wasn’t a part number change but he said we were not to use the old numbers. I then asked what am I supposed to do with the old numbers. He doesn’t know! Has anyone run into this before???
You guessed it………… the new seals are on BACK ORDER.

Yes, the brain trust at GM is constantly replacing part numbers in the catalog instead of superseding them.
Look at the special return for all of those headlights a few months ago.
I had a few of those collecting dust on my shelf for A YEAR.
Unfortunately for us, they just don't get how bad it f's things up when they do this.
I don't' expect it to stop either.

Well that explains a lot. The Partech analyist we talked to said there was no number change involved. I knew we had sold a lot of them but had no way to prove it, what with the catalog changing. A word to the wise, if you have the number on D2D you will get a ton of requests.....

they are in SO FAR over their heads!! The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. When they come out with new part numbers it is USUALLY because of a contract that they have with a certain supplier for X amount of pieces and have to run them out under the new number. They don't want to do the supersession because then they will be left with stock on the OLD part number and have no way to get rid of those except for including the cost of the write-off into the cost of the NEW part number, and that is how axle seals become $20+ at dealer cost for a part that costs them 50 cents. Has anyone noticed what they did on the hubs in the last week ?? What we have known and trusted as 88964168 and 12429204 in the past and sold PLENTY of under these "old" numbers, is now becoming 13582664. They've got stock in all the PDC's, but, yeah .... it's so popular that NO dealer comes up on D2D as having them. Of course, if we did the supersession as it shows on Parts Workbench we would lose $100. cost on the 12429204 to do the transition to the new number. We love ourselves some GM ... they are doing an AWESOME JOB !!

This silly game playing with part numbers by GM is NOT NEW. Back in the days of paper parts catalogs, I always kept at least 2 previously published catalogs because of this very same issue. My people would ask "didn't we have that part in stock last month?" Drag out the old catalog and sure enough, completely different part number and we have it sitting on the shelf!

Hmmm, let's see. That part number USED TO WORK, BUT THE GENERAL SAYS IT DOESN'T ANYMORE. Bullshit.
If you have the 22757062, for pete's sake, use it!!
