Concealed Fascia & Sheet Metal Damage

Concealed Fascia & Sheet Metal Damage

Postby PartsPlant81 » Thu Jun 08, 2017 2:01 pm

We have been experiencing a ridiculous amount of concealed damaged body parts in the last few months.
The only person that has complained and asked for reimbursement is our dealership body shop manager.
We sell body parts to about 5 other wholesale shops and I have never done a concealed damage claim for them in the 5 years I have been here.
I did one claim for our previous body shop manager and he was here a little over 3 years with me.
The current manager is claiming small scratches on fascias and miniscule dents/bends on sheet metal.
Now he wants us to inspect all of the parts before we give them to the body shop but I explained that will not benefit anyone since it will just waste our time and he will still end up repairing the part because he won't want to wait until the next day or 3-5 for a referral for a replacement part.
Has anyone else received damaged parts to this degree and/or heard any ridiculous requests like what I am dealing with now?
Thanks

Have not seen a increase in damage. Do have a wholesale customer that refuses to fix new parts( wants us to pay overnight fees) funny thing is our shop will use the same so called damaged part and never asks for labor.

There is a different breed of body man today. They are like some of the so called techs, parts replacers. I worked in a body shop 40 years ago, yea I know I am old, and we fixed all kinds of small dents. I do not think we ever were reimburse for the repairs. Our body shop whines about the smallest of dings and I tell them all the time make a repair order and I will submit it. I guess it is easier for them to fix the ding rather than create a repair order because I never see an RO.

There is a form in P&P to fill out and fax to GM for reimbursement of damaged sheet metal and it is very easy. You will need a copy of the invoice when you submit it, usually paid the next day.

That is what I have been doing. He has had approximately 10 claims in the last 3 months!

Who delivers the parts to the body shop? You may want to have them inspect them, we started doing that once and awhile. This way you actually would see the damage, not saying he didn't have those issues but it is easy money at $75.00/Hr or whatever your rate is.

We do. Even if we did and they are damaged he is going to repair them because he can't wait for the replacement part. He get's $50/hr.

When I get a shop that starts having more than a few of those 'hidden damage' repair claims I tell them that we have exceeded our repair allotment for the month and will have to exchange out the sheetmetal.
You find out real fast just how legit their claims are.
