SERVICE KEY 23425557

Has anyone ever had to order one of these? We have a 2010 Camaro in the shop that has had the recall done and we need to program a transmitter. My tech is telling me that in order to program it, we need a service key. Seems familiar as I think that I have ordered one of these in the past. I am trying to order this one now, and twice I have had the order cancelled due to an invalid key code. The key code is in the Zxxxx format and the source is telling SPAC that the key code should be in the Vxxxx format. When looking to see what the key fits (2010-2015 Camaro and 2015-2018 Express/Savana Vans) I find that both vehicles have key codes in the Zxxxx format. I am about to go nuts over this key and the fact that nobody at GM or apparently the source wants to look at the obvious and admit that there may be an issue and the dumb-old parts guy might actually be onto something. Has anyone else out there shared in my pain??? How did you get it handled if so?

Did SPAC suggest ordering the key with the Vxxxx format to see if it will go through? With all your documentation, there should be no trouble filing a claim on it if it comes in and won't work properly. Yes it is a hassle to order again, IF you can order. Granted, their way sounds hokey, but it is so hokey, it may actually work. Good luck!

They didn't suggest that, but I did think about it. The only thing holding me back is that the key may not work (but then again, it might) and I (but more importantly the customer) will be out that much more time trying to get this handled. Every problem that I encounter on a daily basis in regards to GM seems like they should have such simple solutions, but nobody there can see the forest for the trees. :(

They're too busy counting their record profits.

Just a heads up, the Vxxxx codes are a 10 cut where the Zxxx codes are 8. Doubtful it would work.

Why not just order a 23489478 and cut it yourself?

Interesting...because they told me to use "V" in place of "Z" and submit.

SPAC: Use a "V" in place of the "Z" and submit it again.
ME: What do we do when this doesn't work?
SPAC: You will have to talk to the person that handles your material returns.
ME: I don't mean about sending it back...I mean about getting a damn key that works!
SPAC: If it doesn't work, call us back and we will look into it further.
ME: Why aren't you looking into it further now???
SPAC: We are confident this will work.
ME: We'll see.

You can't make this stuff up, folks!

You can program the fob without the service key but it is kind of a pain. You do it the same as you would by adding keys.Have a good wad of tin foil ready. Start car with known working key. Pull key out. Wrap head of key with tin foil several layers of foil. Insert key and hold remote to be programed against key. Start car. This all has to be done in the allotted time in the service procedure. It may take a few times with more than a few layers. Also it will only program 8 keys total including lost ones so if it doesn't program you may have to clear all keys. For future always order fob with cut shank. Program fob, remove shank, throw shank away. Tell customer against NTSB to sell with shank.

Sounds like one of those myth buster shows. :D Only GM would do this
