R12 FREON

UPDATE...

We've nailed it this time!

The R134a machine we use has a tank which weighs 27.5 pounds empty. The tank sits on a scale on the machin and there is a way for you to measure the amount of R134a onboard.

When it's plugged in and turned on, hold down the two buttons on the lower right of the keypad then hit number 6. The display will show the weight of the tank (27.5) plus it's contents, in pounds.

We now use a checksheet to determine the weight of the tank prior to the tech getting it and just after it's return to the Parts Dept. All techs are aware of the checklist and that the machine must be returned before going to someone else for use.

What a difference this has made! Whether we had a problem with it's use not being noted on ro's, leaks within the machines or parts personnel forgetting to bill it out or whatever - the problem is gone.

It's amazing what can happen when people know they are being held accountable and that the machines are in top condition.

To be sure we did not have a problem with the 2 machines we use - we sent them out for repairs. We had the hoses changed and a complete leak check performed on both. It cost a bit but it will pay off in the long run.

We still bill per pound and have not had a loss of even 1 pound since April 22nd!

(Why didn't I think of this sooner?)
