Anyone getting their airbags returned after inspection? It's been over two weeks since our first one was shipped, the claim shows denied and Atlanta has been shut down by the weather. Our GM is on me for answers.

While the store I am at has not done ONE new car, one of my sister stores has. It took 5 business days to get. That is from the Cleveland PDC so your mileage may vary.

On another note, this is got to be right at the top of most stupid ideas Chrysler has come up with, and that's saying a lot!!
I was going to copy and paste the recall instructions but they are such a mess, I will sum up for those that don't know.

Pull console and dash assm to gain access to REAR mounted PAB.
Give air bag to parts so they can create a MRA to send back the airbag, making sure to note serial number and label each package and the cage with 'air bag' notifications. Make sure the parts people handling air bag are haz mat certified thru Chrysler!!!
Once the air bag gets to the PDC, a third party will take and inspect the suspect air bag. If it is good, it will be reboxed and labeled and sent back via DDS.
If the airbag is bad, they will put a new recall airbag in the box and ship it back. THE SAME AIRBAG I HAVE IN STOCK. Dealer cost on the airbag? $38.25....
The service dept gets a whopping 2.6 hours to pull the dash completely out of the vehicle , wait a week or more, then reinstall an airbag. 2.6 whopping hours...
What does the parts dept get for all this 'haz-mat' handling and the 48 phone calls of 'when is that airbag gonna be back'???? Notta, nuthin, zilch..

The idiots who came up with this should be put in the locks for a month and have rotten meat thrown at them.... :x :x

All our vehicles are now complete. The first was sent out and returned 8 days later. Boston PDC.

There is a mobile unit that was created to go to the larger dealers with high vehicle count to scan the vehicles as they are without having to remove the bags. I don't know how the owner managed it but he got the mobile unit to stop at our dealer.

We have machine here today to inspect ours and we have invited every area dealer to bring their inventory to inspect as well.

Of course today is the day they revise the recall to scrap the whole unsold vehicle process and just use common sense approach and replace them all... Seems it took a couple of months for someone with half a brain to see what a stupid idea it was.
