Headlamp part # changes?

Does anyone have any insight/thoughts on why headlamps are constantly changing part numbers? They change so often I can't keep CDK and RIM up to date on them.
Not to mention I have also had at least one case where the core jumped from $50 to $125 when the number changed.
Has anyone gotten any input from someone at GM on this?

I looked at a lamp yesterday for a 16 Silverado 84181565 changes to a 84356949 and the price jumps $208. Both parts on B/O I called spac and asked if I could spac the old number. She said it would change to the new number, and that it would shop the new unless I called and had someone sprint the old. I ended up loosing the sale due to the time delay and the $200 increase in price. Thinking about the whole deal after the fact. If I called and had a dealer sprint the old number and my spac case was on the new number would GM still bill me for the new number?

If the dealer tells SPAC he's sprinting the old number you should get billed for the old number.

I'm pretty sure they would bill the new number. We ordered a 84356949 and they sent a 84388632. That's the one where the core jumps to $125.00. Global doesn't show that # change. Not sure if it's a # change , a substitution or what. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

This reminds me of my spac adventure yesterday. Part# 97371996 on CSO order refers to direct ship and sits there. I check availability and get "SHIP DIRECT PART - NO VENDOR STOCK AVAILABLE", but since it's direct ship, it didn't "backorder", so I can't make a spac case on Global. I call spac. She checks and says supplier should get stock on 3/26/18. I ask her to make a spac case. She says she can make a "T case" but since it's direct ship, it won't shop, never mind that 10 dealers show stock on OEConnection. I ask her to make the case anyway. Now case status shows "Your SPAC case has been promised to ship on 03/26/2018."
I guess I should do spac's job for them and call one of the dealers and ask them if they will Sprint it. I really shouldn't have to do that.
I'd rather sit here and bitch about it. :D
