Do the rest of you obtain parts from aftermarket, like LMC for old discontinued GM vehicles and resale them , or do you stay away from this and let your customer do their own shopping online ? The customer will see what you pay and if you try to make any kind of profit, some people will complain. Just checking the thoughts out there. I've tried to stay away, but so much GM original is discontinued and it seems I am turning away too many sales.

Across the counter, I let them choose to buy it elsewhere or online. Many times, customers don't want to give out their personal information on the internet or are uneasy when it comes to ordering things online.
In Service, we try to find the part however possible, and present the information to the customer. The Advisors make the customer aware of the situation from the start, then the customer can make the decision.

Only company I'll deal with for stuff like this is vintage parts, and I make it real clear that all parts are to be prepaid, and are non returnable for any reason (other than we made a mistake).

We bend over backwards for most of our customers. Once in awhile we get burnt, but for the most part the customers appreciate us going out of the way to get them the part. We have been burnt on some discontinued Corvette parts we sent out to be rebuilt (hydraulics) , but overall it works out for us.

We don't use much for aftermarket parts here. Customers already scream about being able to find better deals online than I can offer on GM parts let alone throwing aftermarket in the mix. If we do use an aftermarket part in the shop half of our customers don't appreciate having to sign the non disclosure form and usually cause a scene. I do however use an aftermarket accessory warehouse sometimes for accessory parts like lift kits/floor liners/ect , but that's about it. The previous parts manager used aftermarket parts a ton and his percentages were always on the very edge of falling out of compliance and I like sitting in the cushion. In case something happens and I have to use a few back to back.
