AutoMate refreshing aged inventory

It appears AM allows an aged part number to be zeroed, deleted, reinstated, have a lost sale recorded and re-received. This takes an aged part and makes it appear on reports as a fresh viable part.
I don't recall other DMS programs allowing this to happen. Granted if you know what to look for it's clear what's going on but the quick glance by inventory co does not see it. It corrupts the data so finding true obsolescence is difficult and shelves are full of "fresh" old parts.
Current "Parts Manager" does this apparently to win gold stars at inventory with zero over 12 month parts. Besides being lazy.

^^ yep. Fudging is one thing. This is another. I'm just surprised the system lets someone do that. If I recall R&R, DealerTrack etc wont let you.

Last place I was a PM at a good parts of my monthly bonus was based on obsolescence percentage. Could have made a killing if I was a criminal and my FOM was not as good as he was.

It all boils down to how ethical you are.

In ReyRey you can run a 2109 to change all your stock AP to NS or blank (normal stock), but at end of month is will revert

CDK does the opposite without any fudging. It doesn't start the clock over on parts so that when you receipt a 0 OH 13 mo MNS/MNR part it now shows 13 MNS and 0 MNR, instant obsolescence.

I beat that by taking all my OH = 0 and OO = 0 over 11 months and put them on delete status on the last day of each month. That way I won't get bit by that part we did a quote for a year ago that's still an active part and goes to 12 months+ the second we buy it. Took a long time to figure that one out and fix it but it works.
I had a $3000 radio we did a quote on last April and when we purchased it for a different customer in January, my over 6 MNS jumped way up. I tracked it down to that and fixed the issue going forward.
I currently have 1 part over 12 months old ($119) - and it's completely legit

Up until an Automate update last year the "Months No Sale" was an editable field in option 4 and 31... couldn't be much easier to fudge than that!

We've been with CDK since shortly after the Reagan administration & our owner is very excited about switching to Automate. CDK has a new feature in MSDA you can turn on that resets the MNS to zero when a part is receipted, thus no more bogus "13 MNS" for a part that arrived yesterday. If we go to Automate I hope they have a similar feature.
