Hi,

I have been in Nissan parts for 20+ years. Manager last 16-17 years. I can do Nissan parts in my sleep. I have an opportunity for parts director at a GM, Cadillac dealership and the Chrysler, Jeep store close by. I know zero about Chevy parts, policies with GM, obsolescence returns, accrual, core returns, etc. Can you guys and gals give me some of what I am going to be up against as far as a learning curve? Is GM 'user friendly' ?

User friendly? LOL They forgot we were their customers. If we treated our customers as they treat us we would be out of business. Just my honest opinion though.

Good Luck--I guess maybe I am just fed up with General Motors. There is no working relationship with them. You never know when the are going to change their policies. No return reserve to speak of--No discounts to speak of unless your a mega dealer. Look at all of the previous posts regarding GM's loyalty to their partners ( the dealers). They just create new "relationships" with Amazon, O'Reillys, Walmart and countless others on every corner. Now with the PACE program if you miss your numbers, they threaten to not create a monthly return on your RIM items plus charge you a surcharge on your orders. If you have a body shop the insurance companies control how much they are going to pay--if it's a used part then that counts as a disloyal purchase. If a part has been discontinued and you install an aftermarket part--it's considered a disloyal purchase. If you have a conscience at all and see a HUGE pricing issue between GM and aftermarket on a 20+ year old vehicle--disloyal purchase. Buy a GM part from Amazon or other supplier because it's cheaper--you guessed it--disloyal purchase. The list goes on and on. I am just stating my opinion having been with GM for over 30 years.

Nissan has been very good to me. I just had the opportunity presented to me so I thought it would be worth checking out more. It sounds like it would be culture shock.

I have been working at a GM store for 30 plus years. Right now I work for a very professional and, empathetic dealer. The only stress I EVER encounter comes from the factory. General Motors used to be a great company to work with. Now it really feels like they do everything they can to make your life miserable. If I didn’t love where I work I would have been long gone.
