We have some LPO parts on the shelf that are over a year old that were never installed. We no longer have the vehicles in inventory for one reason or another. Do any of you have a similar situation? What do you do with the parts?

Track down the vehicle and get the part to the vehicle. LPO's are on the monroney, therefore if a situation ever comes up and an audit is performed...the DP will have a lot of explaining to do. This has happened a few times and its not fun.
Or just trash them.......your call

We have a system in place that works for us...but we are a small dealer. The only LPO's that I have are for vehicles that have not been shipped to us as of yet.

This. I would do everything in my power to get the parts to the vehicles that they belong to. I have done it in the past and, while not fun...it is necessary.

If the customer has opted for an aftermarket substitution, as long as it is well documented, you should ask them if they'd like to take the part(s) with them or not. We had a customer upgrade wheels only, prior to the exchange program and transit wheel program, and they did not want the old set! They allowed us to keep them and sell them ourselves. Another fella wanted a specific aftermarket splash guard type, but wanted us to purchase his LPO set from him; no problem. Each situation is different. If it is pure oversight or neglect, it should be addressed with Sales and Service.
