Parts Manager Salary

Parts Manager Salary

Postby Volvomgr » Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:33 pm

We are a new dealer (less than a year old) and my salary is guaranteed at the moment but pay plans are coming out. I am new to being a parts manager as well so I’m not 100 percent certain on what to expect. We are a single car line currently doing 55k GP but growing 15% to 20 % month over month. If you guys have any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks

It may vary depending on location but with that GP you should make at least 50-60K/yr.

Differs by location, brands, etc. Most that I know for a single line make between 45-60k, and then tack on another 10k per additional line to that range.

55K a year at 40 hrs per week = 26 bucks an hour, and NO manager is only working 40 hrs a week...so perhaps 21 an hour for a manager?

Where I am a good parts counterperson makes 22-25 per hour overall. Admittedly you'll still be broke at the end of the month thanks to local real estate prices......

HERE IN 2023:
Is this still a good benchmark? Things seem all over the place since shutdowns and labor shortages have rendered many industries' talent pools on the shallow side. Those trying to change jobs or gain entry level employment can't seem to nail down a good starting wage model or a decent career change calculator.

First off, its great to see another Volvo Manager on the forum, and congratulations on your promotion. If you need any help on Volvo policy's, feel free to email me.
I agree, It depends on your area. Depending how your Dealer Principal wants the store to grow, I would shoot for a salary of at least 50-75% over the highest paid counterman, along with Gross commission of 2.5-3.5%, Net commission 5-7%, also a percentage of service gross along with whatever "perks" the DP is open to. I feel the PM and the SM should be on the same pay scale, we are at my store.

I have been at 9% commission against 3500 draw since I started in 2005. We were running about 60k/month with 2 countermen and I was working 55-60 hours a week (including every other Saturday.)
We still have the same number of staff. However, we are now running about 150-170k/month. I no longer work Saturdays and my weekday schedule is 7-4 (no lunch.) Not a bad gig at the moment....things are starting to slow down a smidge.
Have a sneaky feeling that we will be cutting staff, if it slows down considerably.
