HVAC control modules no longer R&R? Now what?

HVAC control modules no longer R&R? Now what?

Postby ehiatt » Tue May 21, 2019 9:07 pm

I just ran into this today. I saw the bulletin but had forgotten it.

UPDATE: EFFECTIVE 5/1/2019, HVAC CONTROL MODULES (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) ARE NO LONGER INCLUDED IN THE R&R PROGRAM.
ATTEMPTING TO SEND ANY HVAC MODULE IN FOR REPAIR WILL RESULT IN THE UNIT BEING RETURNED TO YOU.
A reman program for many of these units is currently in development and may launch at a later date. Communication will be provided at that time.

Checking availability for part# 19370283 gives you this: "No Inventory available for this Part. SHIP DIRECT PART-WILL B/O UPON ORDER ENTRY".

So, what do will tell our customers? We can't get it? We may can get it some day?
The R&R program was bad but at least you could tell the customer something.

What is the matter with these people at GM?

You tell them that there 25-30 year old car doesn't have parts available. How long does GM have to supply parts for?

I thought the legal obligation based on production volume was 7 years?

now remember it is now the new GM. So really anything before Bankruptcy is not protected . So 2010 and older models are not New GM . it is OLD GM

searching Google.

the article says in short > THERE IS NO LAW . The manufacturer has to provide a replacement part in order to repair the vehicle under its Warranty or replace the vehicle or buy it back.

We had a very good customer the first of this month that had ac control issues. We ended up having to use one from a wrecking yard. The face plate was completely worn off of the recycled part and we popped the front off of the one being replaced, and used it on the recycled part. Yes, I got docked in loyalty points for their failure to provide a part........

I'd submit a same day adjustment. shouldn't penalize you for not being able to provide a needed part.

It was only about $50 so it wasn't worth the effort, but still irritating......
