Parts tire order scam?

Anyone have a request for $10 grand worth of tires? We are a Michigan GM dealer and the area code is L.A. Guy says urgent to get back with him and he will get us a card for purchase. He wanted 8 of 4 different sizes and we have talked to him. Now I know this is a scam but how does it work?

more than likely it will be a stolen credit card, we used to get requests for multiple engines to be shipped out of the country.
