Parts billed on r/o but not used...

More treasures from my previous parts manager....
I get called out to the outbuilding this morning, and am asked about parts sitting on shelf in the back of the upper level shelving.
From what I understand, it's all parts billed on repair orders but never installed or not used. They've been on the shelves longer than I've worked here. Previous PM never said a word to me about them.
I've got a set of takeoff truck wheels from a colorado.
They're not in our inventory. WTF do I do with them? Owner wants me to inventory stuff and put it in inventory so that we can sell it. We've already sold this stuff!

use your monthly parts invoice and credit yourself back for them. Don't re-receipt them as you didn't buy them.
That's free stuff for you and I bring stuff like that back in as a credit to help offset the shit we lose and break in parts.

What do you mean credit yourself back?

If I credit back the parts on an invoice, won't that cause them to be put back into stock? Or can you " IO " a credit? How does that work?
I have the proverbial clean slate after we wrote off a bunch of shit that we couldn't find and I don't want to screw anything up.
Some of this stuff was over 10 years old. Some of it was aftermarket parts. I tossed 90% of it aside from the stuff that I know I can sell.
I found an LPO set of colorado molded mudflaps with the gold bowtie logos on them.

That's why they make dumpsters.

I have always had a problem with these kinds of "freebies". I do not put them in inventory unless I believe they will have a "real" sale (if they never were installed on the original sale can you truly say that you have had a demand?), otherwise, if you put them in inventory, they show as pickup on your next inventory (you are a hero), but if they don't sell eventually you are going to have to trash them (now you are a zero.)
If I have lots of extra reserve, or can return them for a fee (35% GM) I will do that.
Thanks,
Gerry

Of course if it's garbage, treat it as such and toss it. If they are useful parts that you know will sell, do a -1 on your monthly parts invoice(if you have one). That will put it back in inventory.
I never "receipt" parts that we did not purchase. I use the invoice for those

So you just create a credit invoice for that part and put it on the shelf?

If you do a monthly parts policy invoice and a service policy invoice, the parts go on there. Not some random invoice
